Sweco is a leading architecture and engineering firm with extensive expertise in designing commercial, public, and educational buildings. The offices in De Bilt and Groningen (NL) have been renovated to better support the firm’s way of working. Sustainability, connection, and inspiration were central to this transformation. In collaboration with interior architect Hal2, the spaces received a new layout with attention to collaboration, concentration, and appearance. Casala supplied furniture solutions for the meeting rooms that bring this vision to life.
In De Bilt, a custom-configured Metro setup forms the central heart of the meeting room. Around the table are Omega chairs with a felt shell made from recycled PET in the colour Sandstorm. The combination of ochre and mustard yellow upholstery with a frame powder-coated in frosty blue gives the space a fresh appearance. The felt seat shells also improve acoustics, which is important in intensively used meeting rooms.
In Groningen, a similar Metro table was chosen, with a powder-coated frame in mud grey. The matching Omega chairs have the same sustainable felt shells, combined with warm brique upholstery. The result is a contemporary meeting room that aligns with the industrial character of the location.
The HPL tabletop in Lindberg Oak rests on a robust, powder-coated steel frame with double profile legs, creating a clear and powerful interplay of lines.
Sustainable design
Casala furniture is a responsible choice. The felt seat shells of Omega chairs contain up to 100% recycled PET. They are attached to the frame without glue and are fully recyclable. The cores of the tabletops are made from recycled wood sourced from responsibly managed forests. The frames of the chairs and tables contain a high percentage of recycled steel; for the Omega I rodsteel frame and Metro frames, this is as much as 80%. Powder coating is free of heavy metals and other toxic substances. The residue is collected and reused in the process, so there is no residual waste.
