The Johan Cruijff ArenA contains 350 chairs from another furniture manufacturer in the conference centre. The chairs were severely damaged by use, stacking without stacking bumper and transport. The floor glides were missing, and the seat tubs had come loose from the frame. These chairs were basically no longer usable.
The chairs with plastic shells were completely disassembled, the construction checked and improved, upholstered with a fabric of recycled thread and reassembled. The base was cleaned and fitted with new glides.
The result: through refurbishment, with a minimum use of new raw materials, the existing chairs were given an extended useful life by the same owner. The chairs were saved from the waste phase and production of new chairs was prevented.
The total saving on CO2 emissions compared to newly produced chairs: approx. 2,870 Kg CO2.
